Sekolah Menengah Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar (Abbreviation: SMPJNPHAB) is known as one of the best government schools in Kuala Belait, Brunei.
The school has a population exceeding 1,000 students. Over the years, SM PJN has succeeded in producing outstanding and well disciplined students. The school is located near the Kampong Pandan Mosque in Kuala Belait.

Construction of the school was completed in 1987. It was formerly known as Sekolah Menengah Mumong (SMM). It was later changed to Sekolah Menengah Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar in 1998.
The school offers education for Secondary One to Secondary Five students. This school is the only school in Kuala Belait that offers Science stream for lower secondary students. The other school in the nation to do such streaming is Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College. The streaming process in this school goes as follow - Only students of Bruneian citizenship who achieve excellent results for their Primary Six state exam, Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (PSR) are eligible to enter the Science stream. Others who don't qualify to enter the Science stream in lower secondary will have to undergo tests which evaluates their proficiency in Mathematics and the English language. After the evaluation, they are then sorted into classes of their similar learning group.
Apart from education, students' involvement in co-curricular activities is also very much emphasized to produce all-rounded students. The school has various facilities to cater to students' needs.
SMPJN is well known for its strict discipline which as a result has produced well disciplined students. The school discipline is maintained by discipline masters, with assistance from school prefects. The Student Council which was recently formed in 2007 also take part in ensuring school discipline apart from dealing with the school administration.
